Individual health insurance has a few options for those needing it. There is the marketplace, which you can see if you qualify for a tax credit. A tax credit is based on your family size and household income, if you do qualify then it is applied to your monthly premium, lowering it by that amount. 

In order to qualify for a marketplace, plan you have to apply during annual open enrollment or have a qualifying life event (lose your job, get married, have a baby, etc...).
